📜 Course Description
Lectures and practicum on methods and calculations, including economic evaluations for the design of chemical plants; formal technical report required.
📜 Course Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- [ ] given an under-defined problem statement with product specifications, synthesize a chemical process sequence
- [ ] design and determine sizes of process equipment
- [ ] apply process simulation software (Aspen Plus) to model a multi-unit process
- [ ] estimate capital and operating costs and perform an economic analysis
- [ ] iteratively evaluate the initial design in light of process model and economics (e. g., heat integration)
- [ ] identify safety, health, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, and environmental issues relevant to the process design
- [ ] evaluate individual contributions to team success and function as a contributing team member
- [ ] write effective progress reports to a supervisor
- [ ] present design work to upper management
- [ ] create a project management plan
